When You May Need Another Blog?

This may be one of the most personal posts I ever write on this site, but it is all from realizations I have had in the past month or so along with my current condition. I have not been blogging, commenting, or even reading as much as I used to. One reason is my current health has been a bit off, but another reason is that I realized what my original intent of NEWRU was.

I knew what my intentions were with NEWRU way back when I started. The purpose was to document what I learned about blogging and internet marketing as I learned it. It was never really meant to be a “what do I write about today” blog. It was suppose to be what I learned as I learned it.

With many of the great bloggers I have met recently, I realized that they really have a passion to teach others. I have that passion but only as I learn it, I am not as passionate about trying to strive for a new tip.

I rely on others great blogs to teach me what I need to know because they are good at what they do, they have passion. My passion is blogging and internet marketing, however, not enough to find a post for every day of the week. To become a blogger it is usually best to blog daily.

After all of this, I came to the conclusion that I may need to either interject my personal life into this blog or start a personal blog as well. I have tons of stuff to say personally and in one or two niche areas. So the debate is… do I start a personal blog? What is funny is that I already have a domain name and have not even started with it. My reasoning for that was that I did not want to overwhelm myself, but after thinking about it since I don’t blog here everyday, would that personal blog be a benefit?

Okay, so here is where I need your opinions, interject personal into this blog or go gung ho with the other one. I of course would not leave this blog as I said I would write when I learn.

Appreciate all opinions on this!

  1. Jenny I think it would be a good idea to do a separate blog id it’s going to focus on personal issues. The reason I say that as to not throw off the focus of what you intend for NewRu. I have a personal blog and since my poetry blog has taken off, I don’t blog on the other one as much. When I do I find it therapeutic and it still contributes to me expanding on my writing. You might write on one and gain inspiration for a topic to write on the other. Allow it to be something you experiment with and see where it takes you. Even if you don’t publish your post but just save it as drafts and decide later on what to do with them.
I hope you are focusing on your health more because that is what really matters. With a sound mind and body comes better writing. Trust me when I say we will all understand if you have to put blogging on hold to take care of you.

  2. Thanks so much Karen for you kind words I really appreciate them. I also thank you for your input I believe I may start the other blog and let a little of my personality shine through a bit more, thanks for the advice!

  3. Go for it.

I have more than one blog and pretty much always have since I started blogging six years ago.

The personal blog (Exit78) is actually the one that gets more interaction. The other blogs are there to augment the content of their related sites and keep them from getting stale.

Though it might take some time, I’d suggest trying for a .com domain. A lot of the easier ones are taken, but, who knows, you might find one that works. I have one with my name, for instance, that’s currently inactive, but I keep the payments up should I decide to use it again. http://michaelgoad.com

  4. You might have to try out both ideas to see what works best for you and your readers. It’s not fun to have a personal blog if there’s no readers but it’s also not fun to post personal stuff on this blog if readers don’t like it. If your readers are loyal then I think adding personal stuff will only help to make the readers to get to know your better, but if 95% of your traffic is “one-time-visits” then maybe a personal blog is better?

  5. Good points Klaus thanks for the advice, I am still pondering the issue, but each persons opinion helps, thanks for stopping by!

  6. I think you should run with the idea of a second blog. Remember, in this business you set your own rules. You’ll hear that you should blog every day, but that is nonsense. You do what works for you. If you only want to dedicate a couple hours every few days, then that is what you should do. Your earnings will reflect that of course. Still though, you should find a system that works for you, one that makes you happy. When you enjoy what you are doing, you are going to want to do more of it.

    1) Personal Blog
    2) Many different niche blogs

    That is my motto.

  7. Hi again Jenny
Sorry to hear you have not been well. I agree with Karen. Most important thing is to look after your health. When I began learning about blogging from others who had been doing it for a long time and doing it successfully, I was never told to blog daily. That seems like a lot of pressure to me; especially when you are not well. Some of the big bloggers have daily posts but many of the posts are by guest bloggers. Just find what works for you and enjoy. I’m sure you will decide whether to have more than one blog. Get well soon.

  8. It’s always nice to have another virtual home where you can write. I have several blogs. Many of them are niche blogs, since they focus on topics I’m passionate about, so I never get bored writing. I do take breaks now and again though.

I had a personal blog, but I let that slide about two years ago. Celebrate Life is a lot like the personal blog I had before.

  9. I agree. Try a separate blog. Then you are free to talk about whatever you want on there.

You know you can load a second WordPress on your hosting account (in a directory) and just purchase a domain to point it to (saves money) and then you can run 2 blogs off one host account. My hosting company even suggested that to me.

  10. Hi Jenny not a nice feeling for me when some one i regard as a friend not in the best of health.Any way best wishes. I believe you can continue with this one and inject what ever you want to do instead of starting another blog. This is just my opinion the final decision would have to be yours.

  11. I think if you already have a domain name then you should not think twice in opening a new blog. After all WordPress is free and is so easy to install, It is better to differentiate personal and business view in different blogs

  12. Your website name here is fairly general. I don’t see why you can’t expand into new areas on this website.

Having another domain name, and then having to promote 2 websites, is going to be an awful lot more work.

Why not just combine everything here?

Seems to make more sense to me.

By the way, that will be $1. 🙂 🙂

  13. I think it will be best if you ask yourself sincerely. What your heart and mind will tell you is the best thing for you. I would not suggest to go on or don’t as if I don’t know what you really feel. It’s just a matter of taste. If you like it, then go on. But if don’t feel it, then try another one thing you have in your heart. Hope to hear more from you.
