What Is The Google Analytics Bounce Rate?

If you are not using Google Analytics I recommend getting it installed. I wasted much of my blogging time with out knowing my stats and other features that Google Analytics has to offer. I had heard of Google Analytics, I just never took the time to install it.

I would like to use this post to discuss the bounce rate of Google Analytics. Much to my surprise and horror, I found that my bounce rate was very high which equals not good. The Google Analytics bounce rate according to the Google Analytics site is:

“Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page. Use this metric to measure visit quality – a high bounce rate generally indicates that site entrance pages aren’t relevant to your visitors. The more compelling your landing pages, the more visitors will stay on your site and convert. You can minimize bounce rates by tailoring landing pages to each keyword and ad that you run. Landing pages should provide the information and services that were promised in the ad copy.”

So after reading that it means that no one bothered to stay around your site to visit other pages, read more of your content, or in general was not interested. Once again high bounce rate equals not good.

After doing some research, I found that the average bounce rate is roughly 37%. To me that still seems high but as I said I am just going by the research I did. I am sure there is much more information out there I have missed.

You want a site or landing page to engage your reader, to keep them interested, this obviously means you need quality content. Content that will help or benefit the reader in some way.

There are other quick fixes you can do for your blog to get your bounce rate to go down. I will cover these in the next post. In summary, if you are not using Google Analytics get started with it now. Find out your bounce rate of your site and watch for the next post to find some easy ways to lower your bounce rate.
