Squidoo Marketing

I read many blogs with some tremendous advice on blogging.  As a blogger and internet marketer, I do not see much mention of the use of Squidoo as a traffic generator and income provider.

Granted, Squidoo marketing is not the quickest way to get good traffic but I believe it should not be ignored.  Much like article marketing, Squidoo gets your site out there.  When people are looking for specific information and they find your lens, your RSS feed and website will be there.

When I was looking my traffic the other day with Google Analytics I saw that a fair portion of my traffic came from referring sites like Squidoo.  I asked myself the question, why am I not making more lenses then.

I had no good answer, building a Squidoo lens takes about 5 to 10 minutes maybe shorter if you know your topic.  You publish and there you go another way to drive traffic to your site.

I would also like to touch on the making money with Squidoo side as well.  While it is true you may not get rich with lenses (although I hear people do), I have made income off the lenses for a while now.

There are many great ways to get traffic as I mentioned earlier but I believe that Squidoo should not be left out of the methods of traffic generation.

  1. Jenny, I absolutely agree with you that Squidoo can and should be used as a marketing tool.

I started my online adventure with a lens and found it to be a great resource. I used it as a learning tool and to test some marketing strategies. I also found that Google loves Squidoo as most of my traffic came from Google searches.

It may take a bit longer to build traffic and make any serious money but I highly recommend utilizing Squidoo as a marketing tool.

  2. Thanks for stopping by Robert, I agree with you! It just seems that not much is mentioned anymore about Squidoo. Once again thanks for stopping!

  3. Jenny,
Last year, I was a member of WealthyAffiliate. Squidoo was one of the main strategies for the marketers in that forum. You’re in good company 🙂

From my understanding, the power of Squidoo was more as a traffic generator than a source of revenue. I suppose that all depends on your niche, though.

I’ll definitely add it to my marketing mix.

  4. Hi Mitch! Thanks for stopping by, I have seen income as well as traffic from Squidoo. I have seen Wealthy Affiliate before, however it was not one of the courses I have taken, do you recommend it?

  5. Squidoo is another one of many sources of light traffic for a blog. It has more authority than a new website does. Therefore, when you are first launching a new blog, it is a valid place to build niche specific pages. Those lenses will outrank your own website for their keywords. Once your website has enough backlinks though, you should be building pages on your website like you build lenses. Then you get to monetize all that organic traffic.

Once your blog has some authority for your niche, you will make a lot more money writing new targeted keyword posts on it than you are currently making on Squidoo.

Squidoo is really useful as are most other Web 2.0 properties for building links to your own niche blogs. It is commonly used as one of the spokes in a link wheel configuration.

Squidoo used to be more authoritative than it is now. More lenses used to rank high for more competitive niches. It is not as strong as it used to be. The hardcore lens spammers ruined it.
