How to Tell If Your Blog Is DoFollow

January 19, 2010
By Jenny

A while back I made a post entitled “NoFollow and DoFollow Blogs – What Are They?”  In that post I attempted to explain the difference between what a dofollow and a nofollow blog were.  Well, the post went well and I seemed to do a good job explaining it.

BUT…….

Shortly after I posted it I was notified by one of my fellow blogger that I was not dofollow……..way to make a “you know what out” of myself huh?  Regardless, I am thankful for the fellow blogger who alerted me to this and it turns out that I did not do something correctly with the dofollow plugin.

I KNOW……….. How could you screw up a plugin, but I did, so it is fixed now.

So here is how you can tell if you are a dofollow blog (you should be dofollow if you do the plugin correctly but it can’t hurt to check)

1.      Go to a page on your blog that has comments

2.      Go to “View Page Source”

3.      Find one of your comments and a snippet of code that should look like this

<div>

<span><a href=’http://websitename.com’ rel=’external ‘ class=’url’>Name</a></span><br />

If it says rel=’external ‘ that means that you are following the link.  If you are a not
following the link you would find a piece of code that looked like this rel=’external nofollow’.

NOW I AM A DOFOLLOW BLOG and if anyone has anymore information please leave me a comment and make me aware, before I put the dofollow widget up………… don’t want to make a “you know what” out of myself again!!

Ha, this is ironic. I just asked someone this question about my blog this morning. They didn’t get back to me yet, but now I know how to check.
I think the confusion is with the different plugins. The one I’m using is called External Links plugin,is that the same one? The confusing part is that it’s like a double negative. “No” to the “No Follow” attribute. I’m like HUH. WTF does that mean. LOL

Thanks for letting me know I’m not the only one and for showing me how to find out the real deal!

    Cheers!

When I first started blogging do follow was popping and I was going around telling people I was NO FOLLOW somehow thinking that was the GOOD one :) LOL had red all over my site and didn’t realize for a while till I actually came across that FF plugin nonofollow and saw how wrong I was about my site. now I just right click select NODOFOLLOW and see everything.
Smiling now that I thought about it Yes it was a little confusing at first :)

There is another easier way to check if the comments are dofollow or not. If you are using Firefox you can add a small plugin named ‘Nofollow’ that will color code the links that are dofollow and nofollow.

It is, after I switched from blogger to WordPress last year, the do-follow idea was the one that caught me thinking: the concept is simple but the plugins are tons, some with NoNoFollow = DoFollow, I was a little worried I misunderstood it etc. Luckily a good friend appointed me a particular app that I finally feel safe about using it. Yes, I believe DoFollow is the app I’m using too. :-)

Great post, I was actually wondering also if my blog is dofollow or not. Now my question is, how can you tell if a blog not yours is a dofollow?

  13. admin on January 21, 2010 at 4:48 am

You can use the same technique on other blogs or use the nonofollow plugin for firefox, hope that helps!

I’ve been using them since the movement first started. I prefer “Lucia’s Linky Love” do follow plugin as it has some nifty admin options.

In order to find which blogs are Dofollow and Nofollow I am using Quirk SearchStatus, I simple enabled Highlight Nofollow and this is it.

  24. Forest River Rv on May 18, 2010 at 5:01 am

I used search status for finding do-follow & no-follow links. This is one kind of plug-in which you can easily install in Mozilla because of this it is easy to know is it blog or links are do-follow & no-follow. I think this is the best option.
