The Benefits of Using Other Peoples’ Content
If you have not noticed yet, at times, I have used articles from other people on this and my other blogs. There are great benefits to using content from others on your site however there are some rules you should follow.
One benefit of using articles from other people is, of course, extra content for your site. As you have heard many times “Content is King” meaning that if you do not have enough good content you will not have returning visitors.
Republishing also shows that you are humble enough to admit that there are others who provide great information, have more knowledge of a subject or have developed a new way of doing things. You want your readers to also benefit from that information. If someone else’s information has worked for you, pass it along to your readers.
There are some rules you should follow when publishing others material. The most important of those rules is to note the author. Plagiarism is ugly. Give the author the credit they deserve, they wrote the article, they are entitled to the credit. Also, make sure you get your articles from open directories or feeds that allow you to republish, to avoid any copywriting issues.
Remember, it is your blog, so don’t over do the republishing of articles. Why should anyone come to your blog if it is just a republishing of the work and knowledge of others with none of your own insights? After republishing an article, add your own comments as to why or how the article benefitted you or can benefit your readers.
You will find that by publishing your own content as well as others your readership will be just as good if not better because you provide quality information that people want.
