Internet Marketing Advice about Focus

An article entitled “Please, Pay Attention Why it is so hard to stay focused these days—and what to do about It” in The Wall Street Journal discusses the causes of losing focus. The author Mr. Myers, who is a professor of psychology at Hope College in Holland, Michigan starts the article with this statement: “With so many things now demanding our attention — emails, Web sites, BlackBerry alerts, incoming text messages, Twitter tweets, Facebook updates, blogs, stock updates, and old- fashioned meetings and phone calls — many of us . . .” Sound familiar?

In Internet marketing, with the massive amounts of information, tools, and programs, it is way too easy to lose focus. The article goes into ideas to keep your focus. Winfred Gallagher, author of “RAPT” suggests choosing activities “that push you so close to the edge of your competence that they demand your absolute focus.” Ms. Gallagher also speaks of meditation stating, “It calms the body, soothes the spirit, and shifts focus away from the past or future” so that we can “pay rapt attention to the present and experience true reality.” She also suggests stopping to enjoy life, cultivating willpower, and separating yourself from distractions.

Now, what does all this have to do with Internet marketing? Quite a bit, Mr. Myers states that he spends an hour a day without a computer or a phone. I am sure I am not the only internet marketer that has sat endless hours with a caffeine IV attached in order to figure out my website, a new program or system, or reading through the next big thing.

Although being persistent like this should not be considered a negative quality, it can lead to stress and fatigue. This stress and fatigue can, in turn, bring about work that lacks quality. It is important to pay attention to your feelings throughout your quest to achieve online financial freedom. So take that hour like Mr. Myers, although I just started doing that I have noticed a difference in my business and personal life.
