Commonly I get asked what is a retweet? In short, a retweet is kind of like forwarding an email. It shows other twitter users that you liked a post, comment, or tweet that someone has posted. It is giving extra help to others while at the same time giving you something to tweet about.

You want to stay active on twitter and at times you may not know what to tweet or you may want to stop tweeting your own horn. This is also a time for a retweet. What does this do for you and why would you want to do it? By posting a retweet, you are showing others that you have access to information and knowledge of other individuals who produce good information. People have a tendency to enjoy people who retweet because it gives them quality information instantly without having to go through every single tweet they get.

So how do you retweet? Well, many people have a post to twitter or retweet option on their site but if not here are the basics. You find a post or something another twitter user has said that you enjoy or think would be useful. To retweet you put RT and the username in front of your tweet and then put the individuals tweet. If you like you can add to the retweet by adding your own comments, suggestions etc.

If you currently have a blog or website there are plugins and tools that will allow you to have a retweet option on your site. There are also twitter applications that make using twitter easier by keeping track of tweets as well as assisting with retweets. Regardless, of which whether you have a site, tool, application, or you are just a twitter user the retweet is a good way to share with others and increase your visablity.
